Highlights of the 2010 Heritage Festival

The 2010 festival, held on Easter Sunday 4th April, was very successful. Huge crowds, the biggest since the festival began in 1995, flocked to the Memorial Grounds for a trip down memory lane.

One of the highlights of the day was the launch of the “Rathdowney 100 Years” book. The first copies of the book were delivered in style, by three ladies riding sidesaddle across the arena. They were Kimberley Griffiths (nee Robinson), Isa Seeney and Amanda Seeney. John Miller, former 4BC radio presenter, launched the centenary book. John is the grandson of Jack and Annie Lucas who ran the Rathdowney shop for 47 years, up until 1973.

Many former residents of Rathdowney took up RADHA’s invitation for billy tea and damper in a special re-union tent.

The festival concluded with a tug-of-war competition between teams from the Rathdowney Hotel and the Mt Alford Hotel. The Rathdowney team was victorious.
